Abstract
This paper describes a method of determining the optimum dimensions of a horn feed for a parabolic reflector using the power transferred to the feed as criterion. The paper extends previous work to include horns with flare angles greater than 10 degree . It also improves the accuracy of results obtained previously. Given a particular reflector one can find the optimum height and width of the feed-horn aperture for a given horn length. From these dimensions the flair angle of the horn can be found. If a particular flair angle is desired, the correct combination of aperture dimensions and horn length can be found to provide it. With the information provided in this paper, an optimum feed can be designed for a reflector of any f/d ratio. 4 refs.
