Abstract

A model for the least cost design of regional detention systems has been developed to aid in identifying cost-effective regional detention sites within an interrelated subwatershed network. The model, through the application of dynamic programming techniques, is designed to minimize the cost of required facilities while optimizing hydrologic and hydraulic design considerations. This model requires typically used design data, including the physical description of detention ponds, the land and construction costs, and the watershed hydrologic parameters and their locations.
