Abstract

This paper presents procedures which systematically analyze the uncertainties involved in both the hydrologic and hydraulic aspects so that the risk and the reliability of the hydraulic structure can be evaluated. A general framework for evaluating the risk and reliability of hydraulic structures is developed which takes into account the uncertain features involved in both the hydrologic and hydraulic aspects. First order analysis of uncertainty is used for analyzing the hydraulic uncertainty in which the capacity of a hydraulic structure is expressed as the function of several variables with uncertainty.
