Abstract

A general framework for evaluating the risk and reliability of water resource engineering projects is described. The design takes into account the uncertain features involved in both hydrologic and hydraulic aspects and parameter uncertainties. Both static and time dependent reliability models were developed and analyses of boh hydrologic and hydraulic uncertainty were performed to define statistical properties of flood loading and structural capacity. These methods for analyzing the uncertainty of hydrologic and hydraulic aspects were incorporated in optimization procedures to design hydraulic structures to minimize total expected costs. (A)
