Abstract

The problem of maximizing the fundamental frequency of a thin walled beam with coupled bending and torsional modes is studied in this paper. An optimality criterion approach has been used to locate stationary values of an appropriate objective function subject to constraints. Optimal designs with and without coupling have been discussed.
