Abstract

This paper examines the implications for genetic criticism of contemporary authors composing in digital environments. Using the memoirs of Nuala O'Faolain and theoretical models concerning media-specific analysis from N. Katherine Hayles, the article establishes some questions and possible practices for genetic analysis of O'Faolain's digital manuscripts, if the laptops and other devices on which they are stored become available. I extend the questions and predictions to the work of other writers in this transitional group, who compose in digital environments despite being new to and aware of the technological tools and environments that became available and the differences in their compositional methods as a result.
