Abstract
The paper presents a series of newly developed tests designed to determine the performance of synthetic insulators. The most efficient of the new methods are selected and recommended for use with some of the standard tests. The test results indicate that synthetic insulators are feasible for UHV transmission lines and that their performance is equal to or better than that of a comparable length of porcelain-insulator chin.
