Abstract

The hunting behaviour of the Ache of E Paraguay provides a case study of those lowland S American economies in which hunting plays a key role. Models derived from optimal foraging theory are used to account for the total set of species hunted, using different technologies. Hunting returns at the group level are calculated, and a more detailed analysis of variance in returns between individuals and across age categories is presented.-J.Sheail
