Nanotechnology and safety

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationArticle

Abstract

Today, nanotechnology is now being touted as a major technological breakthrough. Specifically, researchers and developers are talking about how nano-technology might be used to develop lighter, stronger materials, better batteries and improved solar cells in the near-term. At the same time, there are concerns that nanotechnologies will bring new risks to human health and the environment. Addressing the latter now depends on sound science and strategic research. Based on these two factors, researchers will be able to ensure that emerging nanotechnologies are as safe as possible while reaching their full potential.
