Abstract
This chapter considers two parallel, but to date institutionally and culturally isolated, international governance frameworks applicable to purposefully engineered nanoparticles (ENPs): those governing commercial developments, and those governing military developments. The first part of the chapter considers the implied governance of inclusion of ENPs in commercial applications, and the relevant governance frameworks. Military applications of ENPs and the relevant governance frameworks, are then considered, and conclusions and recommendations are made to ensure more successful and consistent governance of ENPs.
