Abstract

Aqueous polymerization of t-butyl methacrylate (tBuMA) and cyclohexyl methacrylate (CMA) mediated with methylated (1.8)-β-CD (MeCD) was carried out to determine the effects of initiator concentration, polymerization temperature, and monomer structure on the polymerization process, molecular weights, and molecular weight distributions of the final products. The blending of MeCD with various poly(alkyl methacrylate) homopolymers to form novel, optically shear carbohydrate/acrylic films was also examined. Overall, 24 hour complexation times resulted in solid complexes of tBuMA or CMA with MeCD.
