Abstract

Liquid-solid mass transfer coefficients were determined by measuring the dissolving rate of benzoic acid in cylindrical tablets into water. Gas flow rates varied from 0 to 0.51 kg/(m2·s) and liquid flow rates from 1.41 to 4.93 kg/(m2·s). The results showed that liquid-solid contacting efficiency of dumped packing exceeds that of stacked packing by 1.72 times. The liquid-solid mass transfer coefficients are sensitive to the liquid flow rate, but independent on the gas flow rate. The Sherwood numbers of mass transfer were correlated in terms of liquid-solid contacting efficiency.
