Abstract

The probabilistic dynamics of the leakage current envelope of polluted insulators was investigated using level crossing analysis. Variations in the leakage current envelope showed the information about insulator performance. The probability density function of the envelope was used to calculate the number of crossings of the leakage current envelope. The risk of flashover increased with the increase in the levels of large excursions of the leakage current envelope.
