Abstract

A non-coherent multiple input multiple output (MIMO) coded communication system over frequency selective block fading channel is considered. A theoretical limit for the channel estimation error is established via a closed form derivation of the Modified Cramér-Rao bound (MCRB), for the underlying channel model and equi-power signal constellations. Furthermore, a specific coded MIMO system with an appropriate iterative receiver is studied, and the mean square error (MSE) in the channel estimation with the proposed structure is demonstrated to asymptotically approach the derived theoretical limit.
