Abstract
This introduction to the manual discusses the purpose of the manual, need and justification, survey of methods and practices used by municipal water utilities, perspectives on water distribution mains, and objectives of the ASCE Task Committee on Risk and Reliability Analysis of Water Distribution Systems, which produced the manual.
