Intrinsic irreversibility in semiconductor light emission

Abstract

The study of the light emission in semiconductors using energy and entropy balance equations reveals that there is an intrinsic entropy generation built into the emission process. Such an irreversible property provides insight into the conversion of electrical energy into light.
