Abstract

The dynamics of viscous propylene glycol (PG) within the droplets of 4.6 nm diameter suspended in a more fluid environment was explored. The soft confinement was achieved by microemulsions of the water-in-oil type, where PG was the intramicellar compound. A composition range in which the self-assembled structures remained stable near the glass transition temperature Tg of PG at 160 K. The results show that the dynamics of PG in soft confinement is accelerated, whereas the usual hard confinement led to frustrated relaxation of PG near its Tg.
