Abstract
Analyses of the extrinsic and/or intrinsic nature of extended defects in nonstoichiometric titanium and tungsten oxides are made by drawing Burgers' circuits directly onto high-resolution electron micrographs. The essentially interstitial and/or vacancy nature of the small defects responsible for the phases TiO2-x and WO3-X , which exist above the extended defect precipitation temperature, may then be implied. Images suggesting a partial wall of anion vacancy defects have also been obtained.
