Abstract

The origin of perpendicular anisotropy in Co/Pd multilayers was discussed. The multilayers in which the total equivalent thicknesses of Co and Pd were kept constant were studied. It was found that the magnetic properties were almost unaffected by alloying up to y = 0.5 nm. Analysis show that the magnetolelastic effect yields a perpendicular anisotropy between 2.3 × 10 5 and 3.5 × 10 5 J/m 3.
