Abstract

A new pipelined architecture for VLSI implementation of recursive equations is developed. The new architecture, termed independent data flow wavefront array processor (IDFWAP), combines locality, modularity, and asynchronous data-driven features of the systolic/wavefront array processors, with the additional feature of independent data flow. The IDFWAP is used for VLSI implementation of state variable equations, in particular the Kalman filter. The new architecture is general enough to handle state variable equations with time-varying parameters.
