Incorporating six sigma methodology training into chemical engineering education

Abstract

The incorporation of Six Sigma methodology into the curricula of chemical engineering and Engineering Experimentation at Texas Tech University has proved to be successful. The Six Sigma methodology's training program are expected to be initiated in all the college education. Six Sigma methodology combines elements from several quality movements with advanced statistical methodology. It is considered to be an effective tool combining business concepts with technical and leadership skills for the managers, engineers, and scientists. The Six Sigma methodology has been successfully applied in different sectors including chemical manufacturing, research and development, business, and financial services. The instructor starts the courses with an introduction of the fundamentals of Six sigma methodology, explaining the D.M.A.I.C process and provide students to maximize their potential to be creative during the exercises.
