Abstract

The behavior of inclusions at the interface between a liquid steel containing manganese and silicon as the primary deoxidants and a liquid slag 50 percent CaO and 50 percent Al2O3 was studied. Inclusion emergence at the interface was observed from the change in light reflection due to the meniscus deformation around the inclusion. Different type of inclusions could be found in the same sample. The inclusions emerge at the interface for significant times before either separating into the slag or being re-emulsified.
