Abstract

A report on hybrid and conventional particle reinforced metal matrix composites by squeeze infiltration casting was presented. Fabrication of the composites was done by squeeze casting and a perticulate preform was infiltrated at relatively high pressure with a liquid 6061 Al matrix. The results of microstructural analysis showed that the composite exhibits a relativly uniform distribution of particles, although due to the high volume fraction of reinforcement, the interparticle spacing was quite small.
