Abstract

This chapter explores how world history is currently conceived of and taught in countries around the world. We reviewed literature related to world or global history curriculum, teaching, and learning from the time period of 2000-2015. We found six main research trends related to world history: Eurocentrism in curriculum and classrooms, identity formation, global citizenship, chronological understanding, habits of mind, and standards and accountability. We also discuss research on the challenges of teaching world history and conclude with suggestions for future research.
