Abstract

A novel method for manufacturing a PEM fuel cell membrane is presented. A nanoscale particulate platinum slurry is placed over the membrane and then flash fused to the membrane surface, allowing much higher catalyst usage and substantially reduced manufacturing cost. Higher-efficiency, lower cost fuel cells can be enabled with this technology.
