Abstract

Transmission engineers have reported the appearance of fifth harmonic voltages in extra high voltage (EHV) transmission circuits. In this paper, one cause of this phenomenon is discussed: transformer saturation. Measurements taken in a 500 kV transmission system are reported. A brief discussion of the impact of the fifth harmonic voltages is given.
