Abstract

The FEATURES system has been developed as a means to integrate CAD with CAM. The system uses feature recognition, extraction and organization to convert a solid model of a part to a graph structure of features represented as solid volumes and linked according to their juxtapositions in the part cavities. This feature graph has potential in automated process planning, NC tool path calculations and other manufacturing processes.
