Abstract
1. 1. A comparison of the actions of pancreatic deoxyribonuclease and a partially purified T4-induced endonuclease on the superhelical F{cyrillic}X174 replicative form (RF I) is presented. Pancreatic deoxyribonuclease appears to introduce single-stranded breaks into RF I without discriminating between the two strands, whereas the T4-induced endonuclease shows a pronounced preference for the "minus" strand. 2. 2. The viral or "plus" strand of RF I is normally about two and a half times as infective in spheroplasts as the complementary "minus" strand.
