Abstract

An atmospheric dispersion model was developed that calculated odor concentrations for a ground level surface given a variety of inputs that represented the meteorological conditions and the sewage treatment facility in Lincoln, Neb. Odor reduction options were modeled by modifying the basic parameters that represent the treatment facility. For selected odor reduction methods, the estimated cost was compared to the calculated change in an odor problem surface to generate a set of efficiency statistics. The model results suggested that sorption techniques are more efficient than dilution methods in reducing odor problems emanating from a treatment plant.
