Abstract
The enthalpies of solution in molten 2PbO. B//2O//3 at 690 degree plus or minus 2 degree C of cordierite, Mg//2Al//4Si//5O//1//8, and of a glass of cordierite composition were determined. From these data, the enthalpy of formation of cordierite from the component oxides is minus 16. 1 plus or minus 1. 7 kcal/mol and its heat of fusion plus 54. 0 plus or minus 2. 0 kcal/mol.
