Abstract

A statistical prediction model was applied to the nucleation rate as a function of temperature for an Al7Si alloy based on the observations of pore formation during solidification in an X-ray temperature gradient stage. A normalized Gaussian function was developed to describe pore nucleation in mathematical simulations of porosity formation during solidification.
