Abstract

This paper presents a methodology to model a 24 V electromagnetic transient (EMT) contactor model that is used for the protection of single-phase induction motors (SPHIMs) in residential air conditioners. The parameters of the developed contactor model are chosen to match its performance with a set of laboratory tested contactors [1]. In load modeling EMT simulation studies, the impact of the presence of the proposed contactor model on the performance of the SPHIMs, at the distribution feeder level, has also been discussed in this paper.
