A theoretical model for inner-sphere electron transfer via a bridging metal ion is presented. The probability of electron transfer and the rate constant of the process were calculated in a semiclassical approximation by taking into account the simultaneous motion of the system along two reaction coordinates: environmental polarization change and rupturing metal-ligand bond elongation. The results of the calculations are (briefly) compared with experimental kinetic data.
