Abstract

The pointer states and decoherence in open quantum dots were investigated. It was observed that the conductance oscillations, which were exhibited by open quantum dots, were governed by a discrete set of stable quantum states. The quantum states were found to have the properties of the pointer states, and were related to trapped classical orbits in the open quantum dot. It was also observed that pointer states had a narrow linewidth and a their superposition with quantum states was damped b y decoherence.
