Abstract

The present study focuses on the stress analysis of nanocomposites in order to obtain the displacement and stress fields of a nanocomposite structure under uniaxial tension while accounting for the time-dependent behavior of the interface between the nanotube and the epoxy matrix. The effective properties of the CNTs are calculated using the composite cylinder micromechanics approach. A perturbation-type expansion is utilized to acquire the displacement and stress fields of the nanocomposite structure while the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic constitutive relation is adopted to model the time dependent effect. It is shown that the time dependence can have an effect on the field distribution which depends on the aspect ratio of the nanaotube, number of CNT walls and the CNT interface.
