Abstract

A systematic electrochemical and spectroscopic study is conducted to examine the effect of counter cations on the electrocatalytic activities of oxide pyrochlores towards oxygen reduction and evolution reactions in alkaline medium. The study suggests that among the family of oxide pyrochlores, Pb2Ir2O7-y and PbBiRu2O7-y are efficient and stable bifunctional oxygen catalysts. An analysis of the X-ray photoelectron spectra of the oxide pyrochlores supports the postulated pathways for the oxygen reactions.
