Abstract

Transient analysis of large distribution systems with high PV penetration using either the full switching model or even the detailed average model of the PV inverters is computationally intensive. Transient analysis through conventional state-space formulations is not suitable for the study of long-term transients of large distribution systems such as, interaction with other control devices, cloud transients, and voltage flicker. In this work, dynamic phasor model for single-phase inverters are developed, aiding the fast simulation of large distribution systems with high PV penetration. This paper extends the applicable range of phasors for transient analysis from the quasi-stationary range.
