Abstract

Synthetic techniques have been developed that allow for the anionic synthesis of poly(alkyl methacrylates) with controlled molecular weight distributions and microstructure. Recently, it was shown that alkyl methacrylate homopolymers, with glass transition temperatures ranging from 30 degree C to 130 degree C, could be obtained either by the addition of polar modifiers or by lengthening the ester group. This paper reports on the mechanism and activation energies for the alpha and the beta relaxations in some of these polymers.
