Abstract

This paper describes six daylighting calculation procedures that the author has been involved in developing over the last several years. They include: sky vault projection, tabular, graphic, protractor, programmable calculator, and microcomputer procedures. After analyzing each, the author finds that they all lack important qualities that would encourage their successful integration into the daylighting design process. A counter model is then proposed where the daylighting procedure becomes part of a learning experience which can integrate with the design process in a natural way and where the designer can exercise his or her knowledge and experience.
