Abstract

Notes the diversity of anurans in deserts of the world. Do selective forces in arid environments lead to convergence in the behavior of unrelated species? For anuran amphibians virtually all social behavior centers around reproduction; the author focuses on the breeding behavior of desert anurans in relation to theoretical expectations regarding the impact desert environments are predicted to have on reproductive behavior. Anurans of the Sonoran Desert, the only arid region for which we have any detailed information on breeding behavior of the anuran fauna, are then discussed. -from Author
