Abstract

The electronic structures of the (BEDT-TTF)2MHg(SCN)4 and (BEDT-TSF)2MHg(SCN)4 (M = K, NH4) salts were calculated using the extended Hückel tight binding method. These salts have a Fermi surface (FS) consisting of an elliptical pocket centered at Z and a pair of lines straddling along X-M. The features of these two-dimensional FS pockets and one-dimensional FS pieces were characterized. The differences in the FS shapes of the BEDT-TTF and BEDT-TSF salts and their implications concerning the magnetoresistance properties were discussed.
