Abstract

Various coding and iterative decoding techniques are investigated for patterned media storage systems and significant performance enhancements are reported at very high recording densities. Coding gains with different island geometries are compared, which shows the promising direction of incorporating coding/iterative decoding with patterned media to achieve ultra-high recording densities.
