Abstract

The energy and coherence properties of an high-grain harmonic-generation (HGHG) free electron laser (FEL) were characterized. Saturated FEL performance was confirmed by the extent of energy modulation introduced into the electron beam and the output energy of the harmonics and FEL fundamental light. Second harmonic autocorrelation, interferometry, and spectral measurements confirmed that an HGHG FEL output is longitudinally coherent.
