Abstract

We speak among ourselves ardently about the need for developing the field of medical information science (MIS) as an academic discipline. We express the importance of attracting and increasing the numbers of those individuals suitably trained and experienced in MIS, who will make commitments to, and identify with, the field as their primary professional activity. Indeed, these two goals of developing the academic field and attracting the academic professional are mutually interdependent, in that good science is created by good scientists, and good scientists are attracted by good science.
