Abstract

A method of calculating impulse and switching surge overvoltages in a high voltage dc thyristor valve as well as a computer program to perform the calculation, is presented. The effects of valve parameters and stray capacitances on the overvoltages are shown through results of calculations for a representative thyristor valve. The results are supported by measurements performed on a 150kV thyristor valve.
