Abstract
(Figure Presented) A molecular bridge: A molecular rod composed of a substituted oligo(phenylene ethynylene) backbone with salicylaldehyde moieties in the terminal positions was conjugated to short 10-base-pair DNA sequences (shown in red). The assembly of two such conjugates on a DNA template (blue) aligns the two molecules for reaction in the presence of ethylenediamine and a metal salt to form a metal-salen complex.
