Abstract

The composition and structures of PdnC60, prepared from C60 and a Pd0 precursor by a liquid chemical combination method, were investigated by means of electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and electron microscopy, respectively. The resulting electron micrographs and diffraction patterns revealed the presence of small Pd crystals embedded in near-amorphous carbon. Heavily faulted face centered cubic (FCC) C60 structures and two SC lattices were also observed. However, no well-defined structure, other than pure Pd, pure C60 and the near-body centered cubic (BCC) Pd3C60 phase, were observed.
