Abstract

Big Geodata are voluminous, near-real-time, and obtained from a variety of sources. Interest in Big Geodata derives in part from current interest in related topics, including the Fourth Paradigm, open data and software, and the changing nature of science. Some of its impacts are disruptive, including the accelerating rate of publication and the lifting of volume restrictions on disseminated results. Spatial prediction is a logical but to date largely unexploited possibility of Big Geodata. High-performance computing may finally have come of age in the era of Big Geodata, while tools of synthesis will need much further development.
