Abstract

The world was taken by surprise with the fast growth of autonomous vehicles and the move from experimental concept cars all the way to actual cars driving among us. On the other hand, little attention has so far been paid to other autonomous vehicles like busses and trucks. The potential economic impact of autonomous long-haul freight trucking is large and wide-ranging. This ranges from reduced costs for personnel and maintenance to the social impact of changes in employment and increased highway safety. We explore this in both practical terms and theoretical and give examples for further study.
