Abstract
A model for cascading failures in complex networks and uncover a phase-transition phenomenon in terms of the key parameter characterizing the node capacity was investigated. It was suggested that cascading breakdown in scale-free networks can be understood in terms of a phase transition. For parameter value below the phase-transition point, cascading failures were suggested to cause the network to disintegrate almost entirely. A theoretical estimate for the phase-transition point was also obtained and a numerical check was provided.
